The Albany State University women’s hoops team was handed a 72-53 loss at the hands of Allen University.
After Albany State scored the first basket of the game via a Tachanda Castling layup, the Yellow Jackets wasted no time , taking the lead 0:21 seconds later on a three pointer from Catrina Nolen. Allen lead the rest of the period, as their efficient offense, 61.5% from the floor, coupled with Albany State shooting a mere 33.3% and committing 6 turnovers greatly aided in the Yellow Jackets building a 23-12 lead after the opening to minutes of play.
Albany State took advantage of Allen committing 4 turnovers and missing 5 of their first 6 field goal attempts of the quarter to draw within a single point at 26-5 on Ayah Howard-Foxx’s layup with 4:32 left in the half. Allen turned up the wick on both ends of the floor, forcing four Golden Rams turnovers and making 5 of their next 6 field goal attempts to extend their lead to 13 at 41-28 heading into halftime.
From an offensive standpoint the wheels completely came off for Albany State in the seond half, as the Golden Rams shot a paltry 15% (3-15) and committed turnovers, completely derailing any hopes they had to get themselves back in the game. Albany State only scored 7 points in the third quarter and although Allen left their offense in the locker room in the same period, also scoring 7 points, the Yellow Jackets recovered , scoring 25 points on 63% shooting in the game’s final period to finish putting the Golden Rams away, 73-52.
The loss dropped Albany State to 6-15 overall and 4-11 in the SIAC. The Yellow Jackets ascend to 12-9 and evened their SIAC record to 8-8.
Kashay Hankerson led two Golden Rams in double figures with 12 points; Kayla Milner chipped in 10 points. No other Albany State player tallied more than 7 points.
